NEPAL: MERA PEAK CLIMB

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel Mountain for overnight.

Day 2: Day at leisure in Kathmandu. Overnight hotel in Kathmandu

Day 3: Morning transfer to airport for flight to Lukla (2800m). The flight into Lukla is a lifetime experience in itself. The airfield is on a slope and the difference between the two ends of the runway is about 60 metres!
Today you will meet with your Sirdar and the rest of the crew and a final check on climbing equipment will be made. Camp.

Day 4: You will start your trek on the trail which traverses south-east through forest, crossing several streams, on the way seeing some beautiful rock peaks. Before the Chutanga, there are two passes Zatr Teng (4943 m.) and Zatrwa La (4600 m.) You may camp before these passes to acclimatize. There are some good camping places.

Day 5: The trail passes through a small notch just east of Zatr Og and a ridge. From the notch, the trail is rugged to Tuli Kharka where you will camp today.

Day 6: First traverse the hillside, then cross several spurs. Make sure that you stay with your guide as this is not a heavily trekked area and there is a chance of loosing the trail. Walking through the rhododendron forest you will have some good views of the mountains whilst you head towards Tashing Ongma. Camp.

Day 7: The trail now follows the West bank of the Hinku Drangka northwards passing through some Yak Kharks (huts) to Tangnag. This is a lovely place for camping, surrounded by stunning peaks. If you think you are not well acclimatised, then you can spend one extra day here.

Day 8: From Tangnag the valley steepens and bends sharply to the east. Then continue to Dig Khare and camp.

Days 9/10: Passing through the Mera La pass (5414 m), you will descend to Hongu side for the Base Camp (5300 m.) A good site, the views are spectacular.

Days 11/12: From Base Camp it is possible to climb the Mera peak and come back on the same day if you are well acclimatised and the weather is good. However, a couple of days for climbing is a good idea in case of bad weather and other conditions.

Days 13 - 18: Back to Lukla via same route. You may not need the same amount of time from Base Camp to Lukla. A couple of these days can be used on the way to Base camp to acclimatise.

Day 19: Fly out to Kathmandu. Overnight Kathmandu

Day 20: In Kathmandu. Overnight Kathmandu

Day 21: Depart Kathmandu
