Tanzania travel: wildlife tours and safaris

A safari to any of the Tanzania National Parks and Reserves is an ideal way to see the splendid wildlife of Africa at close quarters. Most parks and wildlife reserves are very large – the Serengeti is well known for its open, grassy plains and the Selous is more than twice the size of Wales.

Tanzania's most popular game parks are Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and (to a slightly lesser extent) Tarangire. These parks are all within a few hours travel of Arusha, Tanzania's 'safari capital'. There are plenty of animals to see and safaris here are relatively inexpensive.

The southern parks – Selous, Ruaha, Saadani and Katavi – are more difficult to travel to and so are much less visited. This where you will find the wild African bush and gain some sense of the real wilderness.

Footloose Adventure Travel has long experience of arranging safaris in Tanzania, please go to the dedicated Tanzania safaris pages for more details.

Tanzania travel: trekking

Tanzania also offers some of the best trekking in Africa, from the highest point in Africa – Kilimanjaro – to the burnt plains of the Rift Valley, with many interesting places between. The most popular treks are generally no longer than a week so you can easily combine trekking with a safari, and even add on a Zanzibar trip to get the best of all worlds.

Footloose Adventure Travel specialise in trekking holidays on Kilimanjaro so, if it's this that takes your fancy, please go to the dedicated Kilimanjaro pages, also detailed there is trekking on Mt Meru and other Tanzania trekking options.

Beach holidays and Zanzibar

Relax on a beach, investigate the history and culture, learn about the spices, go diving, sail boarding and dhow sailing – all are possible and can be done in their own right, or be added to a trekking or safari holiday to complete your Tanzania travel. Please go to the dedicated Zanzibar pages for more details.
