SOUTHERN NAMIBIA HIGHLIGHTS

An 8 day self drive tour visiting Fish River Canyon, Namib Desert, Sesriem & Sossusvlei, Swakopmund coastal resort

Day 1: Windhoek - Land in Windhoek, collect your hire vehicle and transfer to your accommodation at Rivendell Guest House, located in a quiet suburb close to the city centre. Stay in a twin room with en-suite bathroom facilities, breakfast included. Explore the shops and restaurants of the city.

Day 2: Intu Afrika Game Reserve - Drive southwards this morning to the Intu Afrika Game Reserve, located approximately 3 hours drive from Windhoek at the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Spend the night at Camelthorn Lodge and take part in an inclusive nature drive this afternoon. Lunch & dinner included.

Day 3: Fish River Canyon - Wake early this morning for an inclusive walk with a San bushman who will share his knowledge of this unique environment.
The drive will take approximately 5 hours. If time allows, visit the viewpoints at Hobas and take a short walk along the Canyon edge to watch the spectacular sunset. Stay at Canon Roadhouse lodge, and take advantage of their excellent restaurant and bar this evening. Breakfast & dinner included.

Day 4: Klein Aus, Namib Desert - You have a shorter drive of approximately 3 hours today to reach Klein Aus Vista, a beautiful private farm located on the edge of the Namib Desert with spectacular views from the boulder strewn hillsides across wide open plains. You will stay in either the main farmhouse or further into the farm area in secluded rock cabins tonight. There will be access to the restaurant and bar which is situated in the main farmhouse.

There are self-guided walks that can be taken on the farm, or you can just relax in the beautiful surroundings. Breakfast included.

Day 5: Desert Homestead, near Sesriem- Set off this morning for the dunes of the Namib Desert, Sesriem and Sossusvlei.
The drive should take approximately 4 hours and you will arrive at Desert Homestead guest farm this afternoon. This beautifully decorated and friendly establishment has a bar, restaurant and pool, and optional horse riding or nature drives within this spectacular area can be arranged. Breakfast & dinner included.

Days 6 & 7: Sea Breeze Guest House, Swakopmund - Wake early this morning to drive the +/- 90km through Sesriem and the dune fields to Sossusvlei. Most of the road from the National Park gates is on tar, the last 5km are sandy 4x4 roads. Explore the dunes around the saltpan of Sossusvlei, and maybe walk across the sand to Deadvlei, a bizarre collection of ancient camelthorn trees and a photographers dream.

Continue your drive northwards after your Sossusvlei excursion, through mountain passes to Walvis Bay and on to Swakopmund. This town is a picturesque resort with many good seafood restaurants and shops as well as an interesting museum and aquarium. You will stay for two nights in Sea Breeze, a lovely and very friendly guest house located on the beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Breakfasts included.

Day 8: Windhoek - Return this morning to Windhoek to connect with your onward flight.
