Cycle Vietnam's Heritage Trail Hue - Nha Trang
10 Days / 9 Nights
Day 1: Arrive Hue (D)
Welcome to Hue. Upon arrival you will be greeted and transferred
to the hotel. Hue is the former capital of Nguyen Dynasty and was
deemed a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1993. Should you arrive in time,
you will learn more about this charming and historic city with a
easy cycling tour of the main sites.
Overnight in Hue.
Day 2: Hue - Lang Co (B/L/D)
This morning the cycling adventure begins with a ride sound along
the coast from Hue to Lang Co fishing village. The road is flanked
by sand dunes and palm trees with occasional mausoleums, pagodas
and warm memorials scattered about. Stop for lunch at a local café
before continuing the ride along small back roads through fishing
villages and alongside Cauhai lagoon to Lang Co Beach.
Overnight in Lang Co. (Cycling Distance: 65 km; moderate)
Day 3: Lang Co - Hoi An (B/L/D)
Today is one of the most intense rides of the trip as you conquer
Hai Van Pass, the highest pass in central Vietnam. Warm up with
a short, flat ride from the hotel to the base of the pass before
the 10kilometer ride up the pass, gaining an elevation of 550 meters.
The views of the coast are spectacular from the top and make a great
reward for your hard work.
Cruise downhill to Danang City, a further 9 kilometers, for lunch.
Continue towards Markbel Mountain and China Beach where you can
refresh with a swim in the ocean. Finally reach Hoi An late this
afternoon and relax with a stroll through the quiet streets of this
historic town.
Overnight in Hoi An. (Cycling Distance: 55 km; moderate to challenging)
Day 4: Hoi An- My Son - Hoi An (B/L/D)
Today's journey is a fabulous ride out to My Son, the ancient centre
of Cham civilization. Transfer a bit out of town to avoid the highway
before cycling along scenic country back roads, past rice paddy
fields, through a eucalyptus forest and passing many picturesque
villages. The meandering road eventually leads us to My Son, once
Champa's greatest city and now an impressive archeological site.
Enjoy lunch near the temples and an afternoon spent touring around
the crumbling temples before transferring back to Hoi An by bus.
Overnight in Hoi An. (Cycling Distance: 54 km; challenging)
Day 5: Hoi An - Quang Ngai - My Lai (B/L/D)
This morning, transfer from Hoi An toward Quang Ngai for the start
of today's ride. The road is shaded by arching palm trees and surrounded
by tended rice paddies as you cruise toward My Lai, the site of
one of the worst massacres of the American/Vietnam War. After lunch,
take a sobering guided tour of the site and museum and then continue
your ride through the Vietnamese countryside to visit a traditional
pagoda. Return to My Lai early this evening for a chance to relax
and enjoy a delicious dinner.
Overnight in My Lai. (Cycling Distance: 46 km; easy)
Day 6: Quang Ngai- Quy Nhon (B/L/D)
Depart early today for the 157 kilometer journey to Qui Nhon, an
American port and supply centre during the Vietnam War and refuge
for thousands of Vietnamese fleeing the vicious bombing of the countryside.
Ride southwest toward the town of Ba To and pedal along tranquil
roads rarely visited by tourists. After looping back toward Highway
1 at Duc Pho, the remainder of the transfer will be by bus to Quy
Nhon. Enjoy time on the beach this afternoon to relax tired muscles.
Overnight in Quy Nhon. (Cycling Distance: 60 km; moderate)
Day 7: Quy Nhon- Tuy Hoa (B/L/D)
After a short shuttle out of town to avoid the main highway, begin
today's ride at Dieu Tri. Pedal along a remote but well surfaced
road running alongside the railway through rolling terrain. Pass
many Vietnamese and ethnic minority villages on the way for a glimpse
of traditional countryside life as you make your way southwards.
Loop back toward the main highway where you will have the option
of cycling or transferring by vehicle the final hour to Tuy Hoa.
Overnight in Tuy Hoa.
(Cycling distance: 70km; moderate to challenging)
Day 8: Tuy Hoa - Whale Island (B/L/D)
Today is the last cycling day and perhaps the most memorable. Depart
from the hotel for a 20 kilometer ride past a network of lush rice
fields which blanket the valley. Ride 3.4 kilometers up over a pass
and descend down to stunning Dai Lanh Beach where you will stop
for a swim and some snacks.
Continue pedaling along the coast for 3 kilometers and then turn
on to the Hon Gom peninsular road for the final 20 kilometers. Walk
a short distance through a local fishing village to the awaiting
speedboat which will transfer you to tranquil Whale Island for two
nights of relaxation.
Overnight on Whale Island. (Cycling Distance: 58km, Moderate to
Challenging ride)
Day 9: Whale Island (B/L/D)
Today is free to explore the Whale Island, relax on the beach, or
take advantage of the snorkeling and Scuba diving opportunities.
This evening, enjoy a delicious seafood farewell dinner.
Overnight on Whale Island.
Day 10: Whale Island - Nha Trang- Departure (B)
Transfer back to the mainland this morning and on to the airport
or train station for your onward connection. Or book additional
nights at Whale Island or Nha Trang for a few more days on the beach.
