MOROCCO - MARRAKECH and
CAMEL TREKKING
Day 1 : Arrival to Marrakech
Marrakech the Imperial capital of the South of Morocco was founded
in the 11th century by the Almoravid Youssef Ibn Tachfine, but was
developed after its conquest by Abd El Moumen founder of the Almohades'
dynasty. Marrakesh is an exotic and lively town offering interesting
monuments, the famous Djema El Fna square, beautiful surrounding
landscapes, lots of restaurants, shows, night clubs and casinos.
Day 2 : Marrakech / Zagora
Zagora is an oasis town in the Draa Valley on the edge of the Sahara,
the world's largest desert. In former times, this was a departure
point for camel caravans heading for Timbuktu in northern Mali,
a journey that took 52 days
Day 3 : Zagora / M'Hamid
The palm-grove village of M'hamid is the last administrative centre
of the middle Draa. Near the Algerian border, camel treks provide
for the trip through the desert. This is an ideal setting to see
the sun set over the desert before camping under the flickering
stars in the clear desert sky to experience the timeless, still
desert unchanged since caravans loaded with spices, gold and indigo
crossed long ago.
