NEPAL: ANNAPURNA DHAULAGIRI

14 days Trek + 4 nights in Kathmandu

Day 01
Upon arrival in Kathmandu you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 02
Free day in Kathmandu to make final preparations for your trek. If you feel that you are adequately prepared and would like to have an escorted sightseeing tour of Kathmandu city, we will be glad to arrange it for you. Please ask for this service from our representative upon arrival.

Day 03
Drive to Airport for the flight to Pokhara. Meet your Sherpa Crew and drive one and a half-hours to Nayapul. Lunch will be served here while your duffel bags will be packed with others and made into loads for the porters. After lunch climb gradually to Tirkhedhunga where your camp will be set up. In the event the flight from Kathmandu is delayed due to weather or other reasons then lunch will be at Himalayan Journeys premises in Pokhara.

Day 04
Ascending the 3767 steps to Ulleri should take you about 2 hours. Walk through lush oak forests and cross several small streams before emerging through Rhododendron forests to Nangetati and then on to Ghorepani (2840m) and camp.

Day 05
Though the mountain views from Gorepani are spectacular in them self, it will still be worth while waking up early in the morning to climb Poon Hill for even better views of the sun coming up over Dhaulagiri I, Tukuche, Nilgiri, Annapurna I , Annapurna south and Glacier Dome and in fact, over the whole Annapurna range. You make a rapid descent from Poon Hill to Ghorepani for breakfast and then continue down to Tatopani where there are hot springs.

Day 06
Today you will turn off the main trail and into the off-beaten-track portion of your trip. Although it is a short day of walking the climb out of the gorge to the ridge is steep. Contour through terraced fields and later through dense rhododendron forests to reach Narchenj. There are spectacular views of Annapurna South and Nilgiri from Narcheni where you will camp.

Day 07-08
Trekking away from the habitation, you will climb to Kopra ridge (3879 m), through beautiful forests, and set up camp. The views of Annapurna South to the south, Nilgiri, Annapurna1 and Fang to the north, and the massive Dhanulagiri range to the west, separated by the Kali Gandaki as it carves the deepest gorge in the world is superb.

Day 09
Today is a rest day. However, if you feel like taking a side trip then head to the Khager Lake above Khaire, taking along with you a packed lunch, for even better views of the mountains.

Day 10-11
Begin your return journey by descending from the ridge through alpine forests to Beyeli Kharka, enter the Rhododendron forests high above the Modi Khola and then finally arrive at Gurjung Village and camp.

Day 12
A short walk will take you to Chomrong (2040 m), the gateway to the Annapurna as well as the Macchapuchare Base camps. Camp at Chomrong with views of yet another face of Annapurna South and Macchapuchare.

Day 13
Ascend to Khimrung village after crossing the Khimnu Khola, then descend to the Khimnu Khola's conflunence with the Modi Khola and trek to Ghandruk, a Gurung village and home to the famous Gurkhas.

Day 14
In the morning descend rapidly to the Modi Khola, then again ascend sharply to Landrung from where you will walk through dense rhododendron forests as you climb towards the settlement of Tolka and Camp.

Day 15
A short walk to Potana and the trail descends gradually and you can move quickly to the ridge top village of Dhampus. You will also notice the change in the climate as warmer weather heralds your arrival to lower altitudes. This will be your last night camping and weather permitting; your crew might prepare a special treat for you. You may be expected to join in the singing and the dancing !!

Day 16
Descend to Phedi and board the vehicle that will be waiting to take you to Pokhara through Tibetan Refugee Camp. The Tibetan Refugee Camp has a Tibetan Handicraft exhibit and outlet where, if you have enough time you may purchase of souvenirs to take back home with you. The handicraft are all made at the camp and the proceeds from sales go to running the camp and helping its inhabitants. Take an afternoon flight back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel.

Day 17
At leisure in Kathmandu.

Day 18
At an appointed time, our representative will come to pick you up and transfer you to the airport for your final departure from Nepal.

The best season to visit Nepal is from October to April when it is sunny and warm although temperatures in the lowlands can fall to freezing at night during the winter. In the high mountains there is snow and ice all year but a tropical climate prevails in the foothills. Monsoon period is June until September.
