Many different activities are listed below, with a few suggestions
of the holidays that will include them, but do remember that the
list and the combinations are infinitely variable, please contact

Abseiling Using ropes to descend steep rocks. See
Multisport.
Biking Usually on mountain bikes and often off road,
but not necessarily technically difficult. Several companies have
programmes of different grades in Europe and beyond.
Canoeing Usually on flat or easy water. This activity
is popular in North America.
Canyoning Descending gorges and ravines using ropes
and by jumping and swimming. See Multisport.
Climbing Involving use of hands but sometimes just
steep walking. A few companies have beginner's courses in Europe
and see also Multisport.
Cycling Usually touring on quiet roads and lanes.
Several companies offer gentle cycling holidays in Europe, self
guided with hotel accommodation and luggage transfer organised.
Diving Using breathing apparatus, often with training
courses. Often taken as an add-on to a beach or touring holiday.
Available throughout the Mediterranean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, Caribbean
and SE Asia.
Hiking The US version of walking.
Horse / pony trekking Usually a multiday trip or
days out in remote areas. This can be ranch based in North America
or lodge based in Africa.
Kayaking Technical descents of fast flowing rivers.
Some rafting companies include kayaks.
Mountaineering Some technical difficulties usually
in high mountains. Courses and guiding are popular in the Alps and
there are some easier possibilities in the Himalaya. Footloose has

Multisport or multi activity
a holiday combining a few of the more technical activities, usually
a day for each. There are several companies offering week long holidays
based in the Alps or the Mediterranean.
Rambling Very English style walking usually day or
weekend low level walks.
Rafting Inflatable rafts which are rowed or paddled.
Often short day trips but can be longer self contained camping trips.
Some companies visit very remote areas.
Riding Often has some instruction included. See also
horse trekking.
Safari Originally watching African big game but often
used in a more general way. Usually day drives from a camp or lodge.
Sailing Covers all types of sailing
activities. Mediterranean based companies have dinghy and small
boat sailing. Larger boats are usually chartered with or with out
skippers worldwide, but especially in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Skiing Usually downhill in organised resorts. Usually
chalet or hotel based.
Ski touring Up and downhill in wild mountain areas.
Snorkelling Using only a snorkell and not organised.
Avialable at most beach resorts.
Snowboarding Usually downhill in organised resorts.
Often combined with skiing.
Snowshoeing Traveling by snow shoe, usually on day
trips. Often part of snow activity holidays.
Touring Travelling to enjoy the journey and not just
as a means of getting somewhere. There is usually an element of
touring in most holidays, and many tours will include some activities.
Tramping The New Zealand version of walking.
Trekking Multi-day walking usually camping and usually
in remote or wild areas, such as the Himalaya or Andes.
Walking Covers all different terrains but usually
returning to a hotel base at night. Most holidays are graded to
allow you to choose the right level.
Yachting Usually in larger sailing boats, sometimes
with nights spent on board. See Sailing.
