Tour of Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains - 7 Nights
Transylvania is surrounded by The Carpathians Mountains. The unspoilt mountains with sharp rock edges, large forests, beautiful fauna and flora make us feel like there is nothing else more pleasant and relaxing than trekking its paths.
Recommended for anyone in good health and reasonably fit
THE HIKING PROGRAMME.
1st day:
Arrival at Otopeni Airport, Bucharest. Transfer to Sinaia or Busteni,
beautifully laid in the Prahova Valley.
Accommodation: Private pension in Prahova Valley (Sinaia or Busteni)
2nd day - Bucegi Massif:
Trekking into Bucegi National Park. By cable-car from Busteni to Bucegi
Plateau to see the megalithic rocks The Sphynx and Babele, rocks turned
into these spectacular figures by wind and rain. The Sphynx is a rock
with the shape of a human-like face with a lingering and enigmatic smile.
A few hours' trek to Pestera Monastery, which is situated in the hart
of the massif.

Note: The itinerary for this particular day is subject to minor changes
upon weather conditions.
3rd day - Bucegi Massif:
Discover the quiet side of Bucegi Massif up to Bran. Enjoying a different
perspective of the mountain, crossing the massif from east to west,
we are getting very close to Bran Castle (well known as Dracula's Castle).

4th day - Optional Day: Visit to Dracula's Castle. Guided tour
to the old town of Brasov including visit to The Black Church, The First
Romanian School and The Weavers Tower. Getting in the old town of Brasov,
you are surrounded by very old houses, narrow streets, and friendly
people. Romanian specialties for dinner at a restaurant in Brasov. Wildlife
watching: Bears are living together with man in a neighborhood in Brasov.
They are fed and they play with man.

5th day - Romanian Village:
Discover old Romanian mountain village of Pestera and Magura and exploring
the Bat's Cave. You get the chance to see and talk with Romanian peasants
who spent all their life in this unspoilt piece of land.

6th & 7th day: - Piatra Craiului National Park
Step into the spectacular Piatra Craiului National Park through Prapastiile
Zarnestilor (canyon) up to the mountain crest, enjoying the sounds of
birds, and the fresh and ozonic tonic air.
Easy walk deep into the forest to the Hidden Chapel.

8th day:
Bus to Bucharest including city tour and transfer to Bucharest's Otopeni
airport.

THE HIKING GRADES
The hiking programme is designed at Footloose Grades2 & 3. With two Leaders we can offer a choice of two hikes on each of the 7 or 8 hiking days. The distances and ascents / descents may be modified to suit the needs and abilities of the group members but will generally be :-
Grade 2 : Up to 3,000 feet of ascent / descent, on way-marked paths. Terrain may be steeply inclined and rough underfoot, with loose rock at times. Snow may be encountered at higher levels. Distances 10-15 miles.
Grade 3 : Up to 1,500 feet of ascent / descent, on way-marked paths. Terrain may be steeply inclined at times and rough underfoot, with possibly loose rock. Distances usually 5 - 8 miles.
