Frequently Asked Questions

Please have a look at our General Information Booklet
Here are some questions we have been asked:

What is a tailor-made trip?
A tailor-made trip can start on any day and can be put together to suit all your travel requirements. So if you are restricted on your dates, or have a definite idea of where you want to go, a tailor-made trip is usually better. These trips are put together by our agents abroad who also provide their local drivers and guides. The cost of a tailor-made trip is based on two people travelling together and can be more expensive than group trips.

What is a group trip?
Group trips are great if you are travelling alone and enjoy being with like-minded people right from the start. Many of the group members are travelling alone and there are usually a few couples. These trips have a tour leader, start on set dates and follow a set itinerary. Many of the trips include the flights from the UK, but you can also join the tour on a land only basis.

Who travels with Footloose?
Anyone with a sense of adventure! Our clients vary enormously and we can organise trips to fit any style of travel and anyone from families to experienced trekkers. The groups are a mixture of couples, single travellers and friends of varying ages. Many of our groups are a mixture of nationalities with English as the common language

Do single travellers have to pay a supplement?
Footloose does not impose surcharges on single travellers, but the costs are sometimes greater. If you share a room and a vehicle this brings the cost down. If you want exclusivity this will cost more.

Is there any age limit?
We do not apply age limits but it is important to discuss with us the appropriateness of a given trek or tour. Regardless of age you do need to be in good health to enjoy our holidays.

Many of your trips are treks - how difficult are these?
On this website you can find the holiday that meets your activity level and aspirations. We will always discuss your experience to be sure the trip is suitable for you.

Do you know about the trips and can I discuss them with you?
In the office we have between us over 50 years experience in organising adventure travel, and many more years organising our own trips. We have visited nearly all the destinations we offer and so we can give clear, knowledgeable and practical advice.

Who will lead my trip?
You will always have a leader/guide with you. These are local people, well trained and professional, to look after you and ensure you have an enjoyable and rewarding trip. They all speak good English and are highly knowledgeable about the areas we visit.

Is there any back up for emergencies?
In each country we work with experienced and reliable ground agents who provide full emergency cover. They all have systems in place to cover any situation. Footloose is in constant contact with these agents and will always help in any situation.

What will I need to carry on treks?
Personal and camping equipment is carried by porters, donkeys or yaks. You only have to carry the items that you will need during the day such as camera, water bottle, sun-cream, fleece and waterproof jacket that should fit into a daysack of approx 35 to 40 litre capacity.

Will I need any expensive equipment for the treks?
Most people will already have all that is required. We expect you to have comfortable walking boots and quality walking socks. On the higher treks warm sleeping bags are required and we can arrange hire of these if needed. We provide equipment lists and we are always happy to offer advice.

When is the best time to go?
The best time to visit different countries varies with the seasons. We will always suggest the best time for particular areas and advise you if the weather is not suitable at the time you choose.

Where will we stay?
The accommodation on different trips (and even on the same trip) can vary enormously. We will always ensure that you know what is booked for you and try to arrange the style and grade you prefer. There is often little choice in more remote areas, but we always try and use the best available. Upgrades or downgrades in accommodation can be arranged upon request for private groups.

Can you arrange flights?
We would be pleased to arrange your flights and we can get competitive prices on most airlines. Increasingly there are good deals to be found on the internet and we are happy to work around these if you prefer to buy your own flights.

What is included in the trip price?
Footloose will tell you clearly what is included in the trip cost and will tell you of any other likely expenses. For most trips accommodation, main meals and transport are included.

How do I book?
Discuss your ideas for your trip with us. We will then give you a proposed itinerary and costing. When you are happy with this we need a deposit to confirm the arrangements. More details of how the payments work are here.

Will I be in any danger on a trip?
Many of the trips go to areas where life is not as certain as at home. We constantly monitor any local problems and avoid sending you anywhere unsafe. Many of our trips go to less developed countries and remote areas. Health and hygiene standards will not be the same as at home and people often have a different concept of time. A flexible approach and sense of humour are essential for maximum enjoyment of adventure travel. Bad weather, flight cancellations, sickness, damage caused by monsoon rains etc, may necessitate a change in the most carefully made plans. Delays, discomfort and inconvenience are possible despite the best efforts of Footloose and our local agents. When you join a tour with you acknowledge that the above may occur and agree to respect the authority of the leader to make decisions that are in the best interests of the safety and well being of the group. Major changes in itineraries are rare, but it is essential that you are aware of this possibility.
