15 DAYS HOTELS/LONGHOUSES - LOST CITIES, BEACHES & ELEPHANTS
In Vietnam we explore the wartime tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City,
take a boat trip on the Mekong river, enjoy the beaches of the South
China Sea and travel on elephant-back and by boat. Our Cambodian
highlight is the most intriguing and largest ancient site in the
world - Angkor, the jungled sprawl of cities where Tomb Raider and
many other films have been shot; engulfed by rainforest, many of
the ruins still lie untouched and undiscovered.
OLD SAIGON & MEKONG DELTA
We strike out for the day to the Mekong Delta, visiting floating
markets by sampan and on foot, we wander through the many fascinating
stilt villages that line the waterways in one of the country's most
fertile areas. There's a chance to crawl underground at the Cu Chi
Tunnels, a subterranean base that successfully hid 10,000 guerillas
from the US army, and in Saigon, why not try a ride in a cyclo!
mui ne beach & central highlands
A drive north takes us to the idyllic beach at Mui Ne, famous for
its enormous sand dunes and a popular spot to try sand-sledding.
We then head into the Central Highlands and the garden city of Dalat
where the cooler climate is perfect for hiking and biking. Then
it's on to Lak where we stay in a traditional longhouse. From here
we take pirogues onto the lake and ride elephants through the surrounding
countryside.
LOST CITIES OF ANGKOR
We fly to Siem Reap, the base from which we visit the undoubted
highlight of this tour, the 'Lost Cities' of Angkor. Built some
800 years ago by the Khmer Kings and engulfed by the jungle, Angkor
is also the largest temple complex on earth. We explore the rainforest,
the temples and also the floating villages on nearby Lake Tonle
Sap.
Itinerary
1 Fly London/Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
2 Arrive Ho Chi Minh City.
3 & 4 In Ho Chi Minh City. Visit Cu Chi Tunnels, City tour and
full day tour of Mekong Delta.
5 Drive Mui Ne beach.
6 In Mui Ne.
7 Drive Dalat via Cham towers.
8 In Dalat; hiking.
9 Drive Lak.
10 Explore on elephant back; pirogue on Lak Lake; fly to Ho Chi
Minh City.
11 Fly to Siem Reap.
12 & 13 Explore Angkor Wat, surrounding rainforest and boat
trip on Lake Tonle Sap.
14 Fly London.
15 Arrive London.

The family trips are designed to appeal to
children with lots of varied activities. There are usually
4 - 6 families and they work well for single parents. Many
of the groups have special teenage dates, so please ask
for these.
