Malawai & South Luangwa
Ref: ZA (2008 season)
Malawi - Zambia
14 days Lodges/Inn/Chalets - Wildlife, Wilderness & Relaxation
Introduction
Often referred to as The Warm Heart of Africa, Malawi is a hidden
gem among its larger southern African neighbours. We concentrate
on the stunning scenery of the Zomba Plateau and the country's dominating
geographical feature, Lake Malawi, the most beautiful of the Great
Rift Valley lakes. We also include world-class game viewing in Zambia's
South Luangwa National Park, regarded as Africa's finest park for
walking safaris.
Tour information
Scenery of Zomba Plateau
From the capital Lilongwe, we head to Zomba in southern Malawi,
a relatively low-lying plateau interrupted by dramatic mountains
- a hiker's paradise with plentiful birds and other wildlife and
dramatic views across to the Mulanje Massif and Mozambique. During
our time here we visit Chingwe's Hole, Queen's and Emperor's views
and explore the surrounding montane forest hoping to see wildlife
from blue and vervet monkeys to bushbuck, as well as many birds
including Livingstone's turaco.
Magic of Lake Malawi
From Zomba we head to Lake Malawi, enclosed by sheer mountains and
edged by endless palm-fringed beaches, a huge inland sea carved
out by the Great Rift Valley and the most beautiful of Africa's
great lakes. We spend our time here at Cape Maclear, a forest-ringed
peninsula with its beautiful nearby islands and stunning sunsets,
where you can relax, snorkel among the teeming tropical fish or
perhaps enjoy a boat trip to secluded islands.
South Luangwa National Park
After a stay at Senga Bay further north on Lake Malawi we turn west
into Zambia and its premier National Park, South Luangwa. Lying
on the valley floor between the meandering Luangwa River and the
steep Muchinga Escarpment, Luangwa is one of the finest parks in
all of Africa, ideal for foot safaris and also noted for its high
concentration of game and variety of habitats - from shaded mopane
woodland to lagoons and the banks of the Luangwa River. We spend
our time here on a variety of game-drives, walking safaris and nature
trails.
