NORTH VIETNAM OVERVIEW

Day 1 : Arrive Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2 : Hanoi
A full day city tour of Vietnam's capital. Hanoi is a unique city with tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and oriental temples. The city tour includes such sights as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum and the Temple of Literature. In the afternoon we continue to visit the Museum of Ethnology and end the afternoon with a visit to the Lake of the Restored Sword and the Cyclo tour to Old Quarter. In the evening enjoy a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show. Overnight in Hanoi. (B)

Day 3 : Hanoi
Free time at leisure (accommodation and breakfast only) (B)

Day 4 : Hanoi-Halong
Leave Hanoi by road for Halong Bay. Enjoy the journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life. Arrive Halong wharf, check-in registration, board Huong Hai junk. Have lunch on board with welcome drink. The cruise will take you by exotic islets with shapes of Dog, Incense Urn, Sail, Fighting Cocks, which are naturally formed by process of erosion between the see water and lime stone mountains. Arrive Surprise Cave and explore the bay by kayak, paddle to Luon cave, this cave is a natural tunnel thrust through a mountain's foot and leads to an exotic lagoon surrounded by mountains covered by dense jungle. Seafood dinner and optional night paddle. Overnight on boat inside a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere in Luon cave area. Overnight on Junk. (B, L, D) (Kayaking for 2 pax)

Day 5 : Halong Bay
Wake up early morning for watching sunrise on sea. Have breakfast, continue kayak exploration. Paddle from Luon cave toward islets in shape of Tortoise, Man's head, Cua Van fishing village. Have lunch on board. Paddle to Three Tunnels lake (selected according to the tides). Have dinner on board. Optional night paddle.

Day 6 : Halong-Hanoi - On train to Laocai
Leave Halong in the afternoon for transfering back to Hanoi Railway Station and board the overnight train. Drift off to sleep in your cosy cabin and wake up the following morning in Lao Cai.

Day 7 : Arrive Laocai-Sapa
Arrive Lao Cai. Transfer to have breakfast at local restaurant. Drive to Bac Ha Sunday market. Exploring the authentic open market of hill tribe people. On the way back, stop to visit the old Palace of H'Mong. Transfer to Sapa in the afternoon.

Day 8 : Sapa
We go by Russian jeep to Lao Chai village, which is inhabited by the Black Hmong hill tribe. We walk in the village from Lao Chai to Ta Van - the only village in the Sapa valley where the Giay lives. In Ta Van we enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our guide in a local house. After free lunch return to Sapa.

Day 9 : Sapa
Arrive Lao Cai. Transfer to Sapa for local restaurant. Then you will be taken by car to the Silver Waterfall; from there you can see the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the lush forests belonging to Hoang Lien National Park. Along the way, you can stop by a farm for a cup of tea while your guide explain about this special part of Sapa where many species are grown such as plum tree and squash. Following you will continue by car to drive uphill to Heavens Gate, the highest stretch of road in Vietnam as well as the provincial border of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces. Here you will have a fantastic opportunity to view the magnificent scenery. Return to Sapa for Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon drive to visit Ta Phin to visit the Black H'Mong, Zay and Red Dao minority people.

Day 10 : Sapa - Laocai - On train to Hanoi
Breakfast at hotel and free time at leisure until transfer to Lao Cai for overnight train to Hanoi.

Day 11 : Hanoi-Hue
Arrive Hanoi and take breakfast in good local restaurant and then transfer to airport for short flight to Hue. Upon arrival transfer to hotel. The rest of time is free time at leisure

Day 12: Hue
A boat trip on the romantically named Perfume River visits Hue's best-known religious site, Thien Mu Pagoda and the mausoleum of former emperor Minh Mang, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. In the afternoon visit the elaborate mausoleums of emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh and the Imperial Citadel from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945.

Day 13 : Hue

Day 15 : Hue-Danang-Hoi An
Leave Hue after breakfast by road for Danang via the scenic fishing village of Lang Co and the Pass of Ocean Clouds. Stop in Danang to visit the beautiful Non Nuoc Beach and the Cham Museum containing the finest collection of Cham sculpture in the world. On the road from Danang to Hoi visit five sacred hills known as the Marble Mountains containing dozens of Buddhist shrines. On arrival in Hoi An transfer to hotel. Hoi An was a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries and its architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years. Take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit former merchants' houses, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful market.
